Rite Notes – April 2026
MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT IS IMPORTANT Companions and Sir Knights, We had a good Spring Festival period this year with 84 new knightings. Let us continue the good works, and in the next three months, our membership should swell. We must, however, keep our NPD's as low as possible. Bring them back and put them to work. I had the honor of attending a degree in April at Okeechobee with 43 candidates. Tampa had a great showing with 15 candidates, and 1 in Pensacola. We should have a great Fall Festival period. Now is the time to get to your Blue [...]

Recruiting Christian Masons For York Rite and Templary Companions and Sir Knights, In order to be successful in recruiting Christian Masons to York Rite and Templary, we must be completely “SOLD” on Chivalric Masonry ourselves. Only then, will we be able to generate the proper amount of enthusiasm for our cause. Everyone who takes part in a membership campaign should know as much as possible about the organization he belongs to. Too many recruiters forget the old rule: “Know your product!” We may not think of obtaining a petition for membership in terms of “selling,” but that is exactly [...]

"How to Make New Members Active Members" Companions and Sir Knights, "Having 10% of your members active is considered good," commented on Grand Officer to me when we discussed lodge membership. A look at the average ratio of active members to lodge or York Rite membership shows this to be typical of most groups in the Western Hemisphere. Now imagine having 85% of the members turning out to every lodge or York Rite meeting. Where does this type of attendance take place? Fantasyland? No, the Netherlands. While Masonry in the country (about 6,000 members), you will find more members at [...]
Rite Notes – January 2026
Getting New Members As we trudge through the doldrums of summer, we must keep our goal of building our York Rite Bodies into a strong Masonic Order. We must utilize these summer months for planning our recruiting efforts and visiting our local lodges. Our fall festival period is getting close. It is possible to get new members. In fact, there will be no growth unless there are new members into your organization. No matter how successful a group is, if they don't continue to bring in new members, it stands a generation away from death. But if your York [...]

Finding Resources to Revitalize your York Rite Body Companions and Sir Knights, Companions and Sir Knights, I would like to commend each of you for the concerted effort you have made in your recruiting efforts you have made this year. With the Pandemic almost over, you have done a great job in bringing in those candidates to the Chapter and Council and in particular to the Commandery. We, in Florida, knighted 79 new knights, in our Fall festivals, and are hoping for a big spring festival programs. Congratulations! It takes a spark to get a fire going. To rejuvenate any [...]
Ideas For Membership
Companions and Sir Knights, We are starting our Fall festivals with a great start. Last weekend Pensacola York Right Knighted nine (9) new Knights, with five more festivals on the horizon. I congratulate all who participated from Ft Walton Beach, Crestview, Marianna, and Pensacola. Great job companions and Sir Knights. The following is a sampling of ideas that we can use to improve interest and attendance: Stress the importance of fellowship. Encourage those who attend regularly to share their ideas about improving fellowship. Give someone the job of greeting all members as they enter the asylum. Make sure that this [...]
